Patterson Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1958 by a handful of neighbors who recognized that the rolling hills and dense woodlands of northern Scott County needed dedicated protection. What began as a volunteer squad operating out of a borrowed garage has grown into one of the region's most trusted emergency response organizations.
Today, our team of more than 50 volunteers covers over 120 square miles of rugged terrain — from the communities along Patterson Road to the remote hollows of the surrounding countryside. We respond to structure fires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, wildland incidents, and search-and-rescue calls, often in conditions that test every ounce of training and courage.
We are not paid firefighters. We are teachers, farmers, tradespeople, and retirees — people who give up their evenings, weekends, and sometimes their sleep to ensure that when someone in our community calls 911, help arrives fast, competent, and without hesitation.
Whether you want to serve as a full volunteer firefighter, support behind the scenes, or simply stay informed — there is a place for you at Patterson VFD. We accept volunteers of all backgrounds and provide full training at no cost.
